Stags Still Spending More than Hens

SAVVY brides-to-be are cutting back on their hen-dos under the credit crunch - while grooms-to-be are splashing out £180 a head on bashes.

Thrifty hens are economising by making their pre-marital celebrations last only one day - whereas three-quarters of party-animal stags want theirs to last for a weekend or longer.

Women spend £118 on their pre-marriage knees-up, £61 less than their male counterparts, according to a survey by Hotels.com and Wedding Ideas magazine.

And the girls are far more likely to stay in the UK to party, while their fellas head off abroad.

A huge 96 per cent of brides-to-be will celebrate in the UK, with 28 per cent not venturing further than their hometowns.

Nine of the top ten hen-party destinations are in the UK, with London, Brighton and Edinburgh topping the list.

However, 32 per cent of stags are planning parties overseas - with London, Prague and Amsterdam the three most popular destinations.

Rachel Moschke, Wedding Ideas editor, says: "The hen-do is one area where brides feel like they need to keep their eye on the budget.

"They are choosing to celebrate in the UK so there is more in the kitty for their big day.

Pass Out Tickets for Stags and Grooms

Who ever said it was easy to get a pass out ticket or permission from your other half for a night out let alone a stag weeeknd was having a laugh. It normally involves getting interrogated about who, what, where, why and then ground rules being laid down. This is particularly true for stag weekends and stag parties. So to speed up the process and so you have written proof of consent which can be reproduced during any future argument, in evidence for the defence, here is aform which is really helpful.

Put downs - Essential for any Bestmans speech!

We have been covering classic 'put downs' in our last few blogs, in particular those from Blackadder, that any 'bestman' might find a use for!  But some of the best actually originated centuries ago and stem from perhaps the world's most famous writer of all time William Shakespeare!

 'The Bard's Guide to Abuses and Affronts' lists many dazzling insults ripe and ready for just that time when a stinging retort is needed!  The Bestmans speech is always going to be the one that most people want to hear....what is he going to say about the groom? ........'will he mention such and such?'... and so on. At one wedding recently the groom actually introduced the bestman by informing everyone that he was susceptible to 'just making up stories and thinking they were actually true' which caused much laughter all round, especially from those who knew the groom well!! 

 In the end the Bestman was apparently 'very kind' to the groom.  'Out of my sight! Thou dost infect my eyes.' from Richard III, may be a bit harsh for the top table but possibly a good one for the Bride to keep up her sleeve once she has heard the Bestmans speech! Not all quotes need be kept for the 'speech' some I'm sure would be very useful for the stag weekend 'Thou smell of Mountain Goat' - Henry V, 'I was searching for a fool when I found you.' - As you like it.'You are not worth another word.' - Twelfth Night, 'More of your conversation would infect my brain' - Coriolanus

'He is given to sports, to wildness and much company' - Julius Caesar, probably a very good description of many a groom! 'Son and heir of a mongrel bitch' - King Lear, perhaps one to leave you with is not so cutting but has true meaning 'Words are easy, like the wind, faithful friends are hard to find.' - Passionate Pilgrim, a good quote for the groom to use once he knows the bestmans speech has come and gone and he's still safe!

Stag and Hen Weekends

Not only do we get lots of stag do's visiting us but we also get alot of hen groups. They also enjoy trying all the outdoor adventure activities we have to offer. Also scantily clad people or people who remove articles of clothing is not just reserved for stag groups. We often get requests from hen groups to have various men come along to remove their clothing.

Here is one such occasion with our Butlers in the Buff serving one of our hen groups their dinner. The Butler has only his serving atire plus a dickie bow on. However it is still tasteful and not over the top. The menu was fairly reserved that night with a pasta dish rather than a meat and two veg!

This is the group after they had returned from their activity day. here they are in our accommodation Merlins awiting their evening meal. This Connie our Chef who was preparing the evening meal for the group. I've never seen such a big smile on her face.

Swine Flu and Stag Parties

We have written in previous articles about the importance of having travel insurance for your stag weeeknd. If you book any other sort of holiday then you are likely to book insurance so why not with stag weeeknds. In fact you are even more likely to need insurance with a stag weekend than any over trip given you will have a large group of sometimes 15 plus people. With such big groups you will invariable get someone drop out and then come knocking on your door for their deposit back.

No matter how many times we advise people to take out insurance for this very reason do you think they listen? This particular issue is now even more important with the spread of swine flu. Although we have yet to be asked for a refund due to swine flu it is only a matter of time before this happens. With the sread now becoming a pandemic then it is bound to affect some groups with people having to drop out. This is not just for travel outside the UK but just as important for travel in the UK.

This is why it is more important than ever to have the appropriate insurance in place to cover this eventuality. However when choosing a policy make sure pandemic or epidemics are not excluded from the policy. As this maybe the very reason you are taking tout the policy you don't want to find, when it is too late, that such things aren't covered.
