We often get asked by our stag groups if they need to purchase accident cover insurance or are the group covered by our Company insurance policy. Obviously the question is asked because our stag weekend packages do involve adventurous activities. To clarify the point, as this will be common to all stag weekends, you are not covered for personal accidents, loss, cancellation or curtailment by any Companies public liability insurance.
The Company you book with should have public liability insurance and you should certainly clarify that they have before bookings or parting with any money. What this means is that should you have an accident which results in injury and felt the company responsible due to negligence then you could choose to sue that Company for damages. However, if it is an accident for which which nobody is to blame then if you don't have any personal accident insurance then you are not covered.
Similarly if you or the company choose to cancel or curtail your stag weekend for whatever reason, the bride changes her mind for instance and the weddings off, then again you may not covered. If you paid by credit card then you do have certain rights to reclaim certain monies but you would need to check with them to find out exactly what rights you'd have. The same applies to loss, damage or theft of personal belongings.
What we advise people is that you wouldn't consider going on holiday or taking a short break abroad without travel insurance so why would you do so for a stag weekend in the UK? Also it is so cheap for a group weekend insurance cover policy. We encourage all our groups to take out a policy which we can offer if required because it is to their advantage.
NB - Please note these are a personal opinion only and the exact leagl position would need to be checked
