The origins of 'The Best man'. Stag weekends with Call of the Wild.

Back in the days when fair maidens were swept off their feet and chivalry was still very  much alive........when was that I hear you ask?!!........well there was a time when potential brides were kidnapped and forced into marriage.  Therefore the groom needed the best swordsman around to guard his back as He made off with the bride. It is also where the saying 'cut to the quick' comes from as this related to someone who had received a good thumper of a sword blow which had pierced the armour and cut into the flesh beneath.

It's hard to imagine how life must have been in those days for the bride and groom and I don't suppose the bestman, having fought off countless suitors for the fair maidens' hand (she hopes!) was that bothered about the speech in the end! www.callofthewild.co.uk don't currently offer fencing as one of the activities but with this in mind perhaps it is something that should be considered! We do however try hard to make the 'Best mans' life a little easier by taking all the hassle out of the stag weekend and offering an all in one package second to none!

After the organization of the Stag do and the worry of getting the groom back in one piece the greatest pressure on any Bestman has to be the speech.  What to say.. what to include..and what to leave out?!!

There are some fabulous though rather barbed put downs from Blackadder that may come in handy for those hecklers and if not are quite simply just very funny! 

Darling - "Come on I wasn't born yesterday" Blackadder- "More's the pity we could have started your personality from scatch" or Blackadder - "Baldrick your brain is like the four-headed, man-eating haddock fish beast of Aberdeen" Baldrick - "In what way?" Blackadder - "It doesn't exist" or Baldrick - "My lord I've been in your family since 1582" Blackadder - "So has syphilis now get out". Everyone needs a Blackadder quote!

Stag and Hen Groups enjoy their weekends with Call of the Wild

Call of the Wild regularly get letters and comments sent through from various Stag and Hen visitors www.callofthewild.co.uk and very often it is the Call of the Wild staff who are commented upon.  It's a great relief for the bestman/chief bridesmaid, having gone through the pressure of trying to organize the 'best weekend ever', to hear comments like: "A superb all-in-one package that made for a fantasic weekend." or "Was a brilliant weekend, really smoothly run and left us not having to think about what we were going to do as it just happened. Stag and Hen groups aften book through Call of the Wild because the organizer has been on a weekend before as part of a group and therefore knows the standard of weekend on offer.  Call of the Wild are always striving to maintain and/or improve on very high standards and all feedback is welcomed.
